Advancing Policy for a Stronger, More Equitable Food System in Florida

Florida’s food system connects farms, workers, communities, markets, and public policy. The Florida Food Policy Council works to strengthen these connections by advancing policies that expand food access, support farmers and workers, protect land, and build climate resilience.
Our work brings together farmers, community leaders, advocates, researchers, and policymakers to address the structural challenges shaping how food is grown, distributed, and accessed across the state.

We focus on five interconnected priorities that together strengthen Florida’s food system.

Food Access & Affordability

We work to expand access to healthy, affordable food across Florida by addressing the policies and systems that influence food availability, pricing, and distribution.
Our work supports programs and policy solutions that improve nutrition access, strengthen local food markets, and reduce barriers for communities facing food insecurity.

Climate Resilience

Florida’s agriculture and food infrastructure face increasing pressure from extreme weather, flooding, heat, and sea level rise.
FLFPC works to align climate adaptation strategies with food system planning, supporting policies that help farmers adapt, strengthen supply chains, and protect food access during environmental disruptions.

Land & Community Governance

Land is the foundation of food production and community well-being.
FLFPC supports policies that protect agricultural land, expand equitable access to land, and strengthen community stewardship models that preserve farmland while supporting local food economies.

Food & Farmworker Justice

Farmworkers and food system workers play essential roles in producing and distributing food.
FLFPC works to ensure food policy discussions include labor conditions, worker safety, and economic opportunity so that the people who sustain the food system are supported and protected.

Community-Led Policy

Strong food policy begins with community knowledge.
FLFPC creates pathways for residents, farmers, and community organizations to help shape food policy conversations and decisions that affect their lives and local food systems.

Food systems challenges are interconnected. Climate impacts affect farms and food access. Land use decisions influence who can grow food. Worker conditions affect supply chains. Community leadership strengthens policy solutions.
